The last volumen of De Historia Urologiae Europaeae was presented

At the 32nd Annual EAU Congress, held in March this year in London, the latest volume of “On Urologiae Europaeae History" was showcased.

In 1933, Salvador Gil Vernet showed that the “rectourethral muscle” was a complex of smooth longitudinal fibers and dorsocaudal striated fibers of the external urethral sphincter.

The first chapter of the book, written by Dr José Maria Gil-Vernet Sedó, focuses on the biography and scientific work of Salvador Gil Vernet, one of the most internationally renowned Spanish urologists in the 20th century, and is based on the conference given by its author at the 31st Annual EAU Congress held in Munich in 2016, where he took part as a guest lecturer.

Salvador Gil Vernet established an anatomical subdivision of the prostate gland into different regions, which helped demonstrate that BPH and prostate cancer originate in different areas.

The 30 pages include the revolutionary work of Salvador Gil Vernet on topographic anatomy and neuroanatomy of the male pelvis and perineum and the development of the first prostate zonal anatomy model. The book cover has an anatomic drawing from the "Salvador Gil Vernet Collection of Urological Drawings".

  • In 1933, Salvador Gil Vernet showed that the “rectourethral muscle” was a complex of smooth longitudinal fibers and dorsocaudal striated fibers of the external urethral sphincter.
  • In 1944, he showed that the superficial transverse perineal muscle comprises fibers connecting the external anal sphincter and bulbospongiosus, without inserting into the ischiopubic rami.
