Dr. José María Gil-Vernet Sedó participated as an invited faculty member at the 89th National Congress of Urology, held in Madrid from 10 to 12 June 2026.
During the meeting, he delivered the lecture The Salvador Gil Vernet Collection of Urological Drawings, in which he presented the evolution of the graphic work that accompanied the research of his grandfather, Professor Salvador Gil Vernet, over a period of more than 25 years. Today, part of this collection is housed at the Spanish Association of Urology (AEU) through a loan from the European Association of Urology (EAU), and constitutes the world's most important collection of urological illustrations, both for its scope and for its outstanding scientific and artistic quality.
As part of the congress, the book The Salvador Gil Vernet Collection of Urological Drawings at the Spanish Association of Urology was also presented. The volume was co-authored by Professor Javier Angulo Cuesta and Dr. Gil-Vernet himself.
The event also included the inauguration of the Gil Vernet Room at the headquarters of the AEU, a space dedicated to preserving and promoting the scientific and artistic legacy of the renowned urologist. The room houses a selection of drawings from the collection, on permanent loan from the EAU.
During the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Gil-Vernet presented the Salvador Gil Vernet Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis, a distinction that recognizes excellence in urological research and helps preserve the scientific and academic legacy of Professor Salvador Gil Vernet.
