Dr. José María Gil-Vernet Sedó Formalizes the Donation of the Salvador Gil Vernet Collection of Urological Drawings to the EAU

Dr. José María Gil-Vernet Sedó formalized in November 2025 the donation of the Salvador Gil Vernet Collection of Urological Drawings to the European Association of Urology (EAU).

Through this donation, the family fulfills the wish expressed by Dr. José María Gil-Vernet Vila that the collection should remain intact and become part of a scientific institution with an international profile, such as the EAU, with which he maintained a close relationship throughout his professional career.

The Gil-Vernet family highlights the importance of this legacy contributing to the preservation of the history of European urology and continuing to inspire future generations of specialists. The collection is now incorporated into the historical heritage of the EAU, where it will be preserved, studied, and valued as an exceptional testimony to the scientific rigor and dedication of Professor Salvador Gil Vernet.

The relevance and historical value of the collection are unique in the history of urology, as explained by Professor Javier Angulo Cuesta, member of the EAU History Office: “This collection is absolutely unique. In fact, it is only comparable to the ink drawings on neuroanatomy by Santiago Ramón y Cajal (1852–1934), which earned him the Nobel Prize in 1905.”

Likewise, Professor Philip Van Kerrebroeck, President of the EAU History Office, confirms the importance of this donation: “Given that preserving the past of (European) urology is one of the main tasks of the EAU History Office, this collection represents a highly significant contribution to our urological heritage and remains a magnificent example of high-level research.”
